The Center for Professional Recovery (CPR) is an addiction and mental health treatment facility designed specifically to help the professional community get the high-quality addiction treatment it needs. Using evidence-based therapies and treatment programs, the clients at The Center for Professional Recovery learn how to manage their addiction while equipping the tools they need to lead productive, world-changing lives.
Addiction and mental health symptoms can affect anyone. From people struggling to put food on the table to those living extravagant lifestyles, substances and mental health symptoms can cause severe health, financial, and social problems. Unfortunately, too many addiction treatment programs only offer the same 12-step system that doesn’t work for everyone. If you are looking for alternatives to 12-step rehab, consider the Center for Professional Recovery at Seasons in Malibu in your journey to a healthier, happier future. Starting a CPR Malibu Treatment Program
When you start at the Center for Professional Recovery, the team conducts comprehensive evaluations to build custom residential treatment plans for professionals exhibiting signs and symptoms of substance use and mental health disorders. CPR is approved for assessment and treatment by almost every state medical board and physician health program in the United States and Canada.
Dr. Greg Skipper has designed a small, dedicated program focused on the needs of professionals that are not often considered in other treatment programs. The CPR accepts a maximum of eight applicants at a time, which allows the program to be individualized much more than most programs. These select clients will undergo evidence-based treatment methods. The CPR team provides a highly therapeutic and healing environment with small groups of other professionals in treatment, as well as individual therapy with doctorate level providers, participation in 12-step groups, as well as alternatives to 12-step groups, including SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery, are a routine part of the curriculum.
Alternatives to 12-Step Rehab at the CPR
As many professionals have tried and failed traditional Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) recovery, the CPR staff have become experts in working with individuals opposed to 12-step programs. Their opposition may be based on the view that the 12-step programs are a cult or religion. They may cite that God is mentioned in the 12-steps. Others see themselves as resistant to any group or oppose the concept of surrendering. We are equipped and have the experience to work with resistant patients. We see their resistance as an opportunity for growth and use the power of our professionals-only approach to breaking through resistance.
- SMART Recovery – Self-Management and Recovery Training is an abstinence-based, not-for-profit organization with a scientific approach to helping people resolve addiction problems. It is an alternative to 12-step groups like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA).
- Refuge Recovery – A Buddhist-oriented path to freedom from addiction, co-founded by Noah Levine. Refuge Recovery uses the methods of mindfulness, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity to heal the pain and suffering that addiction has caused.
Both groups are offered at the CPR. Additionally, our evidence-based program is designed specifically for professionals. We understand that you may be concerned about how treatment will affect your job or if your employer will find out about your stay with us. We can help you navigate these waters, as many of our staff have walked in your shoes.
Traditional 12-Step Recovery at the CPR
Alcoholics Anonymous has been a lifesaving program for millions of people. Developed by stockbroker Bill Wilson and physician Bob Smith, the program was first outlined in 1939. At that time, they published the first edition of their book, Alcoholics Anonymous, referred to by many as the “AA Big Book.” They list 12-steps to recovery from alcoholism. These 12-steps have been borrowed by many other programs, such as Narcotics Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, and many others. The pathway to recovery they describe has been called a spiritual program. AA is said to be not a religion but a spiritual program. The word God, however, is mentioned in four of the 12 steps.
Sometimes, the professionals we help eventually find value in 12-step rehab. We have been very successful with this population, enabling even the most resistant patients to find aspects of traditional AA recovery they can benefit from and add to their recovery toolbox. During their treatment, most resistant patients decide the 12-step programs are tolerable and helpful. A significant advantage of 12-step recovery is that it is effective, and the groups are plentiful and free.
