Who doesn’t love having a delicious, refreshing drink while you’re relaxing? Unfortunately, for the many people who suffer from alcohol addiction or are recovering from it, this simple action can be very triggering. However, it is handy to have some great recipes on hand for when you need them. Keep reading for more about refreshing alcohol-free drinks, why they matter, and some recipes to get started.
Refreshing Alcohol-Free Drinks: Why They Matter
If you are in recovery from alcohol addiction after attending rehab centers, someone asking you what your drink order is can be very triggering now that you are sober. This might cause you to avoid gatherings, going to restaurants, or to possibly relapse. Luckily, having a go-to alcohol-free drink that you love can benefit your life in many ways. These include taking you out of an isolating situation, a way to avoid questions, and because they are delicious!
Isolation is Harmful to Recovery
As mentioned, a drink order can be very triggering for some people in recovery while at a restaurant or at a gathering. Isolation is extremely harmful to recovery, so avoiding gatherings (while helpful for especially triggering circumstances), can do more harm than good in the long run. Being prepared with an alcohol-free option to bring to parties or to order at a restaurant can help you feel more at ease in a triggering situation.
Alcohol-Free Drinks Avoid Questions
Many individuals in recovery, especially if they are new to recovery, might not be so open to talking about it with strangers, coworkers, or old friends. “Why aren’t you drinking tonight?” and feeling peer pressure can be enough for many to give in and relapse. Having an alcohol-free drink in hand can make it look like you are drinking alcohol to help avoid an uncomfortable situation.
Alcohol-Free Drinks Are Delicious!
Just because you are sober, doesn’t mean you have to stick with water or sodas all the time. Concocting fun alcohol-free drink recipes are not only helpful, they are also simply delicious and fun to do!
