Re: Addiction Awareness Scholarship Campaign Essay
Why do you believe we as a nation are dealing with an addiction crisis? The addiction crisis has always been there, we have been fighting against it for years. Everyday there are news about some new drug that has come out on the streets and how it destroys individuals and their families every day. The DEA has been able to work with law makers to regulate substances, but pharmaceuticals are very rich and are able to find law makers that support their money-making strategies.
What are the consequences of this addiction for the individual and society? The consequences for an individual are numerous, physical problems that start from high blood pressure, anxiety, brain damage and even death. For society is all of the broken homes that suffer with family members that have addiction, children end up in foster care and suffer a life time, child abuse, child neglect, spouses carrying all the weight in their shoulders to try to make a living for them and the family.
How can we remedy the crisis on both the individual and societal level? Education is key for success in everything, we need to educate everyone on the consequences of addiction and make them aware of the risks. Awareness is key to make possible changes. Going out into the community to help and not look away, sometimes we feel safe because our families do not have addiction problems, but we can make a difference by lending a hand and getting out there to self-serve the community and make it better. It is for the common good of all of us.
