What addiction bring to us

We see people struggling with addiction. Old, young, women, and men. Addiction does not choose or affect specific person; it affects every single individual. The reason I believe as a nation we are dealing with an addiction crisis is because when we go outside, we see people who are addicted to different kinds of harmful substances. They could be addicted to tobacco products, alcohol, marijuana, caffeine. This leads individuals to not function without the substance in their bodies. They cannot work, they cannot even communicate with others. These things lead our nation into crisis with health, economy, pollution, and another crisis.

Every type of addiction has consequences. If we take drug addiction as an example it starts with rounding the individual’s economy. It prevents people from investing in themselves it stops them from building their life. Instead, their addiction leads them to spend their money and income on buying drugs.  Most people loss themselves because of addiction. It could even lead them to homelessness other consequence of addiction on an individual is a health problem. People who are addicted to something can’t function without the addictive substance in their body which can lead to a lot of diseases for example smoking can cause cancer, heart disease, stroke, lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. If we take alcohol as an example it can cause weakening of the immune system, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems. Even it can lead to death.

The consequences of addiction on society is highly linked to the consequences. As I mentioned above there are a lot of consequences addiction brings to an individual’s life. When one individual is affected by addiction the whole family suffers for example if one person got mentally ill or died because of addiction their family are responsible of taking care of the person or living without that person and the person could be someone’s father, mother, daughter, son, sister, brother or any other family member and addiction can lead people to lose their loved ones which then affects our community (society). Also, our society will be filled with people who are addicted.

The solution to remedy the crisis on both individual and society is to educate people from young age that addiction harms individuals, families, community, and country. Also, for people who are victims of addiction is to build a rehabilitation center and creating a support system for them to get clean and to get them back up on their feet. The most important one is to stop the production of harmful and addictive substances. When we work on individual level, we automatically save our society form addiction. I believe it only takes one person to change a society.
