The face of addiction is a lot more complex than what it once was decades ago. There are many forms of addiction such as gambling, casinos or horse races.
Shopping at the mall for that favorite handbag, jeans or shoes in every color
Going to the corner store to buy a pack of cigarettes. Driving while texting, checking cell phone messages every few minutes at work or school or unable to avoid social networking sites like facebook, instagram and twitter. Video games, Xbox, PlayStation or Wii Games.
There are more common every-day forms of addiction that may not get as much attention, such as grocery shopping for comfort foods, favorite snacks and alcohol for a party or social gathering. Alcoholism and binge drinking.
Coping with divorce or economical set -backs, leading to escape or distraction by way of recreational drugs.
Whether someone finds comfort in shop therapy, cigarettes, snack binging or recreational drugs or unable to go without social media or technology, such as a cell phone, laptop or tablet. All across the globe, people, especially here in America are living a different generation. Generation Addict. of something. While some may call these addictions “vices”, others may see these addictions as something far more serious. While some may have financial consequences such as gambling, drugs and overspending, other addictions can have severe health consequences, not only with recreational drugs, but also with food addiction, which can cause health issues, obesity, cholesterol and heart disease.
Nowadays, most people in Generation Addict experience one form of addiction or another, with some being more damaging than others. However, one thing that is certain is that no matter the face of addiction, the effects can be harmful to the individual and their love-ones and much awareness is needed to help all forms of addiction.
