Addiction towards meat-eating
Addiction towards meat-eating
When you say addiction, generally people think about drugs, smoking, alcohol, etc. But in actuality, addiction can be as simple as gadget addiction, meat-eating. Life is peaceful when your surrounding living entities are happy. I believe that all animals have the right to live just as humans do. We all together make the Earth. Animals share the planet as well. I believe that love for every living entity makes one happy and nature will also produce ample natural resources. The world will be undisturbed and free from miseries. We have sufficient grains, fruits, vegetables, and herbs, what is the necessity of running a slaughterhouse and killing poor animals. We can live without animal food then why should we harm them for the so-called savored taste.
Animal killing for sensory pleasure is an act of ignorance. If we can live without harming an animal, why should we eat other animals? We are not living in an uncivilized culture like the ancient hunters. There is no necessity of killing animals when there is an ample supply of grains, fruits, vegetables available for us. A human being has a developed consciousness not to harm other living entities and not to engage in acts of ignorance. Since we have basic knowledge, we don’t need to eat animal products. Is the momentary pleasure of our taste buds really that important enough to permanently take the life out of other living entities? what if the humans were put into that sort of environment or condition? Is it reasonable to kill other humans for our momentary pleasure? Of course not. Killing people will immediately earn one the title of “serial killer.” Similarly, killing animals is not any different. By homosapians, every year over 56 billion animals are slaughtered which does not include sea creatures. If killing humans is immoral, then killing animals is just as cruel. They are living entities just like us. They have all the right to live equally like us. We should bring this small change and not kill animals for our momentary sense of pleasure.
“To be nonviolent to human beings and to be a killer or enemy of the poor animals is Satan’s philosophy. In this age, there is always enmity against poor animals, and therefore the poor creatures are always anxious. The reaction of the poor animals is being forced on human society, and therefore there is always a strain of cold or hot war between men, individually, collectively, or nationally.”(Srila Prabhupada) When animals are slaughtered they undergo a lot of suffering which gets transferred by those who consume it. Animals don’t have a developed consciousness like us and they are always in the mode of ignorance. When we consume eat, we tend to accumulate that mindset of an animal. Animals tend to harm other animals for their benefits. And if we consume them there is no difference between us and the animals. “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.”(Sir Paul McCartney) Unfortunately, innocent people are often misled by those who say that animal products have proteins and other nutrients. But if you analyze more number of people are dying due to the excess of food not due to lack of food. Our human body is made suitable for eating vegetarian food only. Animals have sharp, claws and long teeth just made to eat other animals. But we don’t have anything like that. We can get proteins from lentils, yogurt, soybeans, etc. In order to obtain our nutrients, it’s not fair to kill animals.
Why love one animal but eat the other? trying to seek happiness from harming other living beings is certainly not going to make anyone happy because we are destroying nature which provides us so many things. People abuse animals for various reasons like experiments, extracting bile for medical purposes, animal racing, food, etc. People differentiate between animals and they tend to harm one and love the other. Every specie is important because animal killing is the number one cause of disruption in the food chain. Other living entities shouldn’t be killed for people to survive. Through this essay, I wanted to tell that by our addictions we are not only hurting ourselves but also harming society. Together we can stop this by having food that is not created by cruelty or violence.
