Addiction: Consequences and Treatment

In our everyday lives, we encounter a variety of adversities. One, however, has greatly managed to expand across the nation and it’s a problem that isn’t as openly discussed as it should. Addiction has always been an issue and the laws only seem to reinforce it instead of resolving it. In Oregon, its been put forth decriminalizing drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, LSD, and methamphetamine. While they say it’s allowed to possess a small quantity of drugs, they will be fined up to $100 if found with them. Looking at this at a different perspective, decriminalization of drugs is just another form of business to benefit the economy. Recreative drug usage is also another occurrence that has increased overtime, leading to an upsurge of crimes. This nation has become an immense user and buyer of drugs and, frankly speaking, isn’t prepared to face such a crisis.

Addictions end up wounding a personal life, family relationships, and it hinders the mental capacity and the physical health of an individual. In a broader view, it also creates economic damages, affecting each one of us.

The consequences of addiction will engulf us if we don’t place an effort to change it. Educating about the effects, risks, and damages that addiction provokes brings a wider understanding of not only the substances, but of the users as well. There are certain circumstances where anyone can fall under the incitement of substances, eventually abusing them and facing incarceration for their actions. Creating and promoting more rehabilitation programs will aid people into regaining the control in their lives and become a better version of themselves. They would be providing their services and hard work like anyone else because they deserve be given the opportunity to return into society.
